Job Description

Summary: The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for providing and overseeing complete patient assessment, care planning, patient and caregiver education, evaluating progress toward goals and recommendations for changes in the plan of care. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 
  • Oversees clinical nursing staff and schedulers. 
  • Assists with providing 24-hour direction for nursing services and employees.
  • Ensures appropriate nursing care is being provided to our patients per company policies and physician orders.
  • Determines suitability of patients for home care.
  • Supervises, monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care, including, when appropriate, in home evaluations of field staff.
  • Reviews and monitors appropriateness of nursing care plans and directs the staff to modify the plan as needed.
  • Manages daily activities with regards to effective operations and communications and ensures the office remains in compliance with all regulating and accreditation entities.
  • Complies with reporting requirements, ensures policy and procedure compliance and monitors and evaluates medical supply usage.
  • Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting nursing operational and financial data to the Director of Nursing.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and participates in office specific continuing education and orientation programs.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing in the recruitment, development and monitoring of new staff.
  • Coordinates and participates in administrative on-call responsibilities.
  • Participates as a member of or directs the professional advisory committee, infection prevention and process improvement teams, including conducting chart audits.
  • Sets goals and objectives for nursing services and assists in the formulation of branch goals and objectives.
  • Conducts in services and does clinical presentations when required.
  • Assists in obtaining/completing billing information and documentation.
  • Participates in planning work of assigned teams and coordinates activities with other patient care units.
  • Ensures that patient needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance.
  • Monitors patient recordkeeping activities for accuracy, completion and compliance with all regulations. 
  • Conducts performance evaluations on staff
  • Creates and oversees nursing schedules
  • Responsible for first line education and competency assessments
  • Direct patient care as necessary
  • Provides daily support for nursing staff
  • Approve payroll and expense reports for direct reports.
  • Assists in establishing criteria for the admission and discharge of patients.
  • Ensures compliance with internal PI/TQM program, ACHC standards and licensure and regulatory requirements as related to nursing services.
  • Ensures compliance with company programs and policies.
  • As needed, functions as Alternate Ambulatory Infusion Suite (AIS)/Outpatient Treatment Center (OTC) Administrator if Administrator is absent for 30 days or more.  Duties include:
o   Responsible to ensure and maintain OTC operations per state regulations.  As Administrator duties include: administration, quality management, contracted services, personnel, transport/transfer, patient rights, medical records, medication services, physical health services, infection control, emergency and safety standards, physical plant, environmental services, and equipment standards.

Required Education/Experience: Completion of accredited Registered Nursing program with a valid RN license issued by the applicable state in which the license is being exercised.  CPR certification, a valid in-state driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required.  Must have at least two years of nursing experience, including one year with home Infusion. Must have strong communication, interpersonal skills, and recent management experience.  Proficiency with computers, infusion pumps and IV access devices is required. 
Preferred Education/Experience:
BSN degree preferred. CRNI, ONS, NAVAN certification and/or member preferred.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages team of employees and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
