Job Description

Summary: The role of the Clinical Support Technician is to assist the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacist in the performance of technical and clerical duties involved in the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, as allowed by law and/or regulation.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 
 
  • Assists the pharmacist with the compounding of intravenous solutions according to the principles of strict aseptic technique.
  • Assists in achieving cost effectiveness in all areas (including purchasing/inventory control, delivery services)
  • Checks and maintains inventory levels, places inventory orders, logs in new inventories.
  • Checks for expired/unusable products and disposes of them properly.
  • Assists in timely preparation of all compounding documentation (including prescription labels, compounding reports, etc)
  • Programs TPN compounder.
  • Ensures the clean room, hoods and related equipment are cleaned and maintained per organizational policy and procedure and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, maintaining and tracking all infusion related equipment, as requested.
  • Performs and records various quality control activities including air sampling, bacteria counts, and Sterility-Testing.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalency. Minimum of one-year experience as a pharmacy technician with training/experience preferred.  Experience in alternate site/home health pharmacy practice and the preparation of sterile products preferred.  Maintains a current pharmacy technician certification where required by law and/or regulation.
