Job Description

Summary: The Compounding Pharmacy Technician prepares/compounds sterile admixtures, including but not limited to parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, and chemotherapy, and hydration, narcotic analgesics with RPh oversight, using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Prepares and generates batch for preparation of sterile admixtures.
 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 
 
  • Ensures the compounding room and related equipment are cleaned and maintained per organizational policy and procedure. 
  • Performs and records various quality control activities including end product sterility testing and media fill.
  • Prepares labels for sterile admixture and places with the respective compounding record. 
  • Ensures the compounding room and related equipment are cleaned and maintained per organizational policy and procedure. 
  • Participates with the pharmacist and pharmacy manager in monitoring/maintaining drug inventories and preparing orders for drugs and related supplies.
  • Performs and records various quality control activities including end product sterility testing and media fill.  Reports all "positive" results to the pharmacy management immediately.

Education/Experience: High School diploma is required.  At least one year related experience is required.  Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic technique. PTCB certification is mandatory.  Completion of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician training program or home care experience is preferred.  Recent compounding experience preferred.  State BOP registration as required per state guidelines.
